I have been given serious flack for the lack of blogging over the course of the last few weeks. And so, here I am writing on this gloomy, humid, boring Sunday.
Leon and I recently returned from five days in the Cape. Some of you may recall that my gunned cousin, with whom I was travelling, is afraid of heights, bridges, small places, etc. Instead I was plagued with memories of being forced by this same cousin behind the driver's seat (WHEN I WAS 15 and not yet driving) before the Newport bridge by this same cousin. I decided forget it, he is on his own. I was proud of him. Through some deep breathing, he was able to make it over the bridge without incident. We carried forward!
Started in Nantucket - not my cup of tea although I did spend some quality time at the lighthouse at Brant Point. Great time reading, listening to the waves and reading my book - yes, I am still watching the Witching Hour. Excellent!!!
We headed to P-town after a long boat ride. The exciting and likely tragic thing is that a sea plane went down in the water. Leon will never be able to go on a seaplane of course. Despite it, it wasn't really our issue now was it, we thereafter made the trek to the familiar Route 6 to Ptown.
Suprisingly enough we found a great bed and breakfast - the Dexter Inn - suprising because we made late reservations! The upside was the fabulous owners: john, john, and not john - and I got to hold john's daytime emmy! that's right - day time emmy! whoo hoo. Lee drove and his truck was quickly deemed the dyke mobile and had to be manuevered into a parking space in the corner so that all the cars could fit. The scene had been set and everyone knew us as the driver of the dyke mobile and his cousin.
The downside of day one was that I had to sleep in the same bed with Leon and share a BATHROOM with three gay men. highlight the word MEN. Boys are just not as clean as women and let me just tell you this ... at this B&B you had to at least bring in a towel to dry your hands after washing. These boys went into the bathroom with a book or magazine or their moist toilettes. And then came out after flusing. There is also a holding of the pee-pee which I am sure happens, and again, no washing. There was not enough purell or bacterial soap for me to feel clean. But I knew the next day at least I would only have one gayboy to share it with - leroy.
We spent lots of time walking commercial street, Tea dances, and hanging with the rest of the tenants at the Dex - Val and Gwen and Russ & Joe. Leon, being tall, had some trouble getting into the doorway - reading, he kept slamming his head on the door jam and actually drew blood. hehehe. Val had to post a sign reading "Duck" and on the reverse "duck, goose." Cute.
Day one found Mike (a fabulous intellectual who was finding himeself and taking a writing course); and Joe. Day 2 found, wait for it, Cowboy Joe. or was it Frank. Good lord, I had to watch this boy sling his thing and spit his chew in a bottle. And then there was Ron - great guy. A bear back rubber too! Of course, a bit of mistaken identity had him a prisoner on house arrest. Thankfully that turned out false. Amazing Grace appeared on day two as well - what a suprise to see her! It had been many many years. Poor thing was traumatized by leon's questions of her intentions toward me. Day 3 was Joe, Jody, and Ron. Day 4 we left.
In addition to having fun in the street and people watching, we also found ourself watching lots of tv. well not lots but when our bodies were suffering from heat exhaustion and sun stroke, we needed something to occupy us while bringing our body heat down. What did we watch? A few episodes of What not to Wear and Flava of Love (what a sick gross person). We also put on Legally Blonde. There was a character played by a popular, back in the day, actress. I kept saying Stephanie Powers. Leon after moments of silence said it was Tovah Borgnine. WHO? Well, come to find out, it was Raquel Welch. Apparnetly both Tovah and Raquel have shows on QVC. Who would know that other than a qvc whore like leon - no one I tell ya. Who even heard of Tovah!!!
I can't believe its been like a week and a half since the vacation - and the only way I know it happened is that I am still the brown goddess. ;)
