Gotta Love Netflix

Netflix managed to release and send me Walk the Line - and before the Oscars. I adore Jaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. But this movie is annoying me. Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Orbison, and a mess of other artists of the time - horribly acted. I enjoyed Ray - liked the transformation of Jamie Foxx and the story. But this one, not so great. Another movie about a rock star that is involved with lots of drugs and sex. Amazing (read sarcastically). Now, I ask you, why can't admissions work yield the same results? Minus the drugs.

This movie is just lame and hopefully there is something great coming up but I am in the 57th minute. Is it my mood or is it just horrible. The acting is not stellar. The love story of it all is lost simply because he comes off as a big old prick - which is maybe what he was. True love twice? Defintitly possible. Reese is just adorable but she cannot sing neither can Jaquin for that matter. Maybe its cause I am not a June Carter or Johnny Cash fan. That could cloud it a bit.

I get the issue of things being different from men and women in show business. Women in 1952 couldn't be divorced but men could certainly screw around a lot. And drugs so make you strong and crazy. But I am not sure that is the point of this movie. The whole "I'm in love with you" thing didn't work between the two of them. And if he listened to her when he was a kid - she should be about 10 years older and she looks 15 years younger. I don't get it.

Reese's singing at the one hour eleven minute mark is better - more serious and less country camp. And you know how I feel about bad editing - well, playing the guitar is an important part of many of the scenes so they should have been careful in the edits. And maybe not had these two hacks sing together. Lord the music is just bad.

The whole peanut in bed scene was horrible. No sympathy here for his detox or the love story - which I found unbelievable at best. Could be my mood but I cannot imagine why anyone is up for an Oscar!

Now Practical Magic...there is a movie that should have yielded best supporting actor for Stockard Channing and Diane Weist.
