Write your Congressman

This is a call to action. We must all stand together in this tragic time. We have all sat through many remakes, as pointed out during the Oscars, War of the Worlds, King Kong, Walk the Mile. But there is only one that is the subject of this pending bill - Pride and Prejudice.

Over the course of one's lifetime we have been subjected to many forms of literature - American, British, Rennasainace, Poetry, Tragedy, Drama, Civil Rights. Admittedly British Lit is not my favorite - Shakespeare, Wolfe, Austen, and the insufferable Dickens. Be not mistaken, this call to action is not to ban the entire genre of British Literature. However, we do ask for a specific ban, namely for the reproduction, reprint, recasting, rerecording, or redevelopment of yet another movie version of Pride and Prejudice.

We acknowledge the accomplishments of Ms. Austen. We lauded her when we were in the 6th grade and forced to read Pride. We laughed and cried over Mr. Darcy and the trials and tribulations of all the characters. We even sat through countless versions of the play - in parks, small theatres, and high school drama class. We even saw the first movie. I ask you, do we really need to subject our selves, and our children, to another version of this movie? Take a stand! Please call your friends, neighbors, Congressman, Senators, and Oscar Nominating Committe.
